FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP —Assemblyman Upendra J. Chivukula (D-17) recently held a successful food drive, which brought together many organizations, businesses, and residents in an effort to help the community. The drive was held in conjunction with the Franklin Township Food Bank, which provides food to residents who require an emergency supply.

Donations were collected from many businesses and individuals in the area, including Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, Faith Temple of Church of Christ Inc., and the Somerset Community Action Program. "The generosity of local businesses and residents is uplifting. Thank you to all who donated," said Chivukula.

Over 100 lbs of food were collected, as well as gift cards to area supermarkets. The Assemblyman, however, hopes that this is just the beginning. "I encourage all who can to continue to donate to the Food Bank, to help those among us who are in need," said Chivukula.

The Food Bank is in need of more food and donations, particularly after the holidays when donations typically slow down. The tough economic climate has recently caused a 50 percent increase in the number of food packages being distributed, due to increased demand.

The Franklin Township Food Bank is located at 60 Milestone Road in Somerset, and can be reached at (732) 246-0009, or online at www.franklinfoodbank.org
